Academy Award Theater

This CBS dramatic series opened with "Jezebel" starring Betty Davis on Saturday, March 30, 1946. The series continued offering such stellar productions as "Stagecoach" with Randolph Scott, "The Maltese Falcon" with Humphrey Bogart, "Young Mr. Lincoln" with Henry Fonda, and "Keys of the Kingdom" with Gregory Peck.

Info about the Shows

The productions were adapted from their screen versions by Frank Wilson and directed by Dee Englebock. Original movie casts were used wherever possible. Alternately, other big name actors were hired to fill in.

The series only aired for one season (9 months) but reached a definite high point in radio drama. Considered one of the great forgotten programs of the air, it remains an important piece of radio history for it's top notch actors and excellent production.
